visited this property each of the previous 3 years, but had been unable to capture just
how spectacular it could be. That is until an early evening in September of '07. We had
an unusual early rain with it's accompanying clouds and here was this red vineyard
with beautiful golden grasses throughout. I had never seen it in this condition, in fact
I can't remember seeing any vineyard in the Napa Valley in this condition. Little did I
know that the very thing that made the scene so beautiful to me indicated that the was
gone. The owners had let the property go because they were planning to remove it. So
this is a bit of history, never to be seen again except in a photograph. Many of the
beautiful older vineyards are being replaced. The land has become so expensive and
the owner can plant 4 or 5 times as many vines on the same piece of land. When this
vineyard was put in, the most expensive part was the cost of the root-stock, today it is
definitely the cost of the land.
